Claim by a mentally unwell woman arrested and detained by the police
Clark v Chief Constable of Merseyside Police [2023] EWHC 2565 (KB)
Police officers are frequently called upon to assist people with mental illness who might be acting violently on account of their symptoms. It requires extensive training and the exercise of patience when dealing with some patients, and some police forces are better than others at training and equipping their officers to deal with difficult incidents involving people in need of specialist mental health treatment when there are few beds available.
