Ethiopia, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), located in the horn of Africa, is a rugged, land-locked country. It is a place of ancient civilisation, with archaeological artefacts dating back over three million years. Lalibela, with its rock-hewn Orthodox Tewahido Christian churches from the 12th to 13th centuries CE, is one of its most important sites. Ethiopia is an uncolonised country as it defeated the Italian army at the battle of Adwa with the help of King Menelik II.
