Documentation

The consignment note

4.1 As with other international conventions concerning the carriage of goods, CMR provides a system for the documentation of the carriage. The transit document in relation to CMR is the consignment note, and Articles 4 to 9 of the Convention deal with its form, content and effect. 4.2 Article 4 provides as follows:

The contract of carriage shall be confirmed by the making out of a consignment note. The absence, irregularity or loss of the consignment note shall not affect the existence or the validity of the contract of carriage which shall remain subject to the provisions of this Convention.
