On May 25 the Afghan Taliban announced the appointment of Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada as the successor to Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour, who was killed in a US unmanned aerial vehicle missile strike on May in Pakistan's Balochistan province.
