Nuclear reaction – UN & EU tighten sanctions on North Korea

The EU has recently expanded its sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), reflecting the adoption of Resolution 2270 (2016) by the UN Security Council (UNSC) in March this year. Susannah Cogman and Elizabeth Head of Herbert Smith summarise the EU’s measures, which include extensive new trade sanctions and, going beyond the UNSC, additional restrictions aimed at the financial sector.
