The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has called for formal expressions of interest to host centres to promote co-operation in maritime technology. The joint IMO – European Union project “Capacity Building for Climate Change Mitigation in the Maritime Shipping Industry” will see five maritime technology co-operation centres (MTCCs) established, one in each of the target regions – Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific – to form a global network. The MTCCs will receive allocations from a €10 million European Union fund. The centres will provide leadership in promoting ship energy-efficiency technologies and operations, as well as reduction of harmful emissions.
