Reporting marine casualties in the US

Prompt reporting of marine casualties in US waters is essential to enable the Coast Guard to respond to incidents and assist parties in need. It also helps the coast guard to determine the contributing factors for each incident and use the lessons learned to promote maritime safety and the enforcement of maritime law. Often, however, shipowners and operators face confusion as to the types of incidents that must be reported.
