Preparing for hurricane season

Peregrine Storrs-Fox, of the TT Club, takes a look at the predictions for the forthcoming Atlantic hurricane season

Hurricanes and storm activity are among the most serious considerations for risk professionals in the shipping and transport industries. Most storm activity affects dry land to a lesser extent, since the majority of weather cycles see out their life span at sea, therefore having greater implications for maritime freight operations and ports. However, extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, have the potential to trigger some of the most expensive individual claims due to damage and loss. Effective planning is therefore a vital exercise for the industry.
