FORMER SOLVENCY II RAPPORTEUR MEP JAILED FOR EXPENSES FRAUD

Peter Skinner, the former member of European parliament who was responsible for steering Solvency II through European parliament, has been jailed for four years after being found guilty of expenses fraud. Skinner worked extensively with the industry as the European Parliament’s Solvency II rapporteur, as well as helping establish the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority in 2010. He was jailed at Southwark Crown Court after being found guilty of one count of making a false instrument, one count of fraud and one count of false accounting. Skinner is reported to have claimed around £100,000 of expenses dishonestly and now faces a confiscation hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
