Pubs in line for £20m refund following copyright ruling

Pubs, restaurants and hotels in England could share £20m in refunds after the High Court upheld a complaint from the British Beer and Pub Association and the British Retail Consortium which said they had being paying too much to play recorded music.

In reaching his decision, presiding judge Mr Justice Arnold dismissed an appeal from music royalty collection society Phonographic Performance Limited against a Copyright Tribunal ruling that a rise in fees it introduced in 2005 was excessive.
