USPTO denies GOOGLE ‘NEXUS’ mark

UNITED STATES – Google has been denied trademark protection for its flagship mobile phone, the Nexus One. The USPTO denied the NEXUS mark because of a “likelihood of confusion” with a similar trademark held since 2008 by telecoms company Integra Telecom. Google can still submit further evidence to support its application and file an appeal against the USPTO decision. Google launches its Nexus One smart-phone in January as a direct challenge to Apple’s iPhone. Working exclusively with Taiwanese electronics company HTC, Google sells the phone on its website.
