Supreme Court finds the Public Sector Equality Duty does not have extra-territorial effect

Measures have been introduced in the UK which are bringing about significant cultural changes in the field of equality and discrimination. Reports reviewing progress against equality objectives, published regularly by various Government departments and regulatory bodies such as the Care Quality Commission, identify some promising developments as a result of the obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). The Inclusive Britain Update Report published in April 2023 by the Government provides a helpful overview. However, so far as the impact of legislation is concerned, much still depends on established principles of statutory interpretation.
